I want you think of what live poetry is.
Now throw all your preconceptions away sprinkle the sweat of years of punk rock basements add a pinch or two of pain. And tears of joy for making it through life scathed, but undeterred.
Pour over ice. In a highball if you have one.
That’s a Cary Goldberg.
Now what do you get when you put Cary Goldberg with a group of classically trained jazz musicians?
A concept record, tackling ableism in America, current political climate, love, and hope that brings listeners and audiences on a rollercoaster ride of emotion.
Released on January 23, 2017 (Cary’s 14 year performance anniversary) A Prayer For Rhythm is a true tour de force that features 21 musicians and was recorded over a period of 4 months in 4 recording sessions in 2016.
It was recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Taylor Roig.
The record features: Saxophonist Eddie Barbash (Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Stay Human), Vocalist Vuyo Sotashe (Finalist Thelonius Monk Vocal Competition), Trumpeter, Benny Benack III (Mya & Marty), Musical director bassist Alexander Claffy (Rotating member of Joey Alexander Trio, Ropeadope Records) among so many talented others.
The live premiere performance will feature a group of musicians that were part of the original recording as well as a few special guests. Cary will also be performing a solo set within the 90 minute program.
This premiere will be unlike anything you have ever seen
