"The Cutouts (Matisse)" is a new chapbook by Bob Holman, a series of short bursts of ekphrastic poetry in response to the cutout pieces which Henri Matisse produced towards the end of his career. Published by PeKa Boo Press (2017) with gorgeous cover and design Rebecca Edwards, the poems are glimpses into reflections on aesthetics, and imagined encounters between the poet and the visual artist. This is the third collection of Bob's that PeKa Boo has published, joining Eight Chinese Poems (1980), and sweat&sex&politics (1984).
The publisher, Eric Edwards, will be joining Bob at the reading party. Eric, recently retired from his post as postman in Falmouth, MA, was one of America's "great young poets" as described by Anne Sexton. He continues to be a great poet. He has a book, Ancestors to Come, and numerous ephemeral publications, leaves of grass.
