Bowery Poetry Club presents three well-known Spoken Word Goddesses:

  • Regie Cabico, Tanya Evanson, and Sheri-D Wilson -

in a one-night-stand of extraordinary performance - The Triple Goddess Show. The electric trio of Spoken Word Artists will perform pieces which extend from the theme surrounding the feminine divine and how that relates to our treatment of the earth. That said, prepare yourself to be wowed by the humour and wit of the irrational with irreverence and charm.

Regie Cabico (U.S.) poet and spoken word pioneer, won the Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam in 1993. Television appearances include two seasons on HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam.” His work appears in over 30 anthologies. He co-edited Poetry Nation: A North American Anthology of Fusion Poetry (1998). He has directed two plays for the 2007 and 2008 Hip Hop Theater Festival, Elegies in the Key of Funk and The Other Side. He has been artist-in-residence for New York University’s Asian American Studies program and at Deanza College.

Tanya Evanson is a poet, performer and producer. She has published six artist books of poetry, three studio albums of spoken wor.l.d music, most recently Language for Gods (2012) and is co-creator of the award-winning videopoem Almost Forgot My Bones (2004). Her work has appeared in international documentaries, music recordings, TV, radio, film and print, including new releases WomanSpeak - A Journal of Writing and Art by Caribbean Women (WomanSpeak Books 2014) and The Great Black North - Contemporary African Canadian Poetry (Frontenac House 2013). Her spoken word performance fuses word with music and has been featured across Canada since 1996 with Poet of Honour props at The 2013 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. As Mother Tongue Media productions, she directs The Banff Centre Spoken Word Program and ANU live art performances. She moonlights as a whirling dervish and lives multilingually in Montreal, Quebec.

Sheri-D Wilson - Mama of Dada Sheri-D Wilson has 9 collections of poetry; most recent are, Open Letter: Woman Against Violence Against Women & Goddess Gone Fishing for a Map of the Universe (Frontenac House). Her collection, Re:Zoom won the 2006 Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry, and was shortlisted for the CanLit Award. She has two CDs (arranged by Russell Broom), and four award-winning Video-Poems.
CBC called her One of the Top 10 Poets in Canada *2006 Poet of Honour *2006 Heart of a Poet, Book TV, Half-hour documentary *2003 won the USA Heavyweight Title (Bumbershoot) *1989 she attended Naropa (Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics) in Boulder Colorado.
