Join us for our monthly Sunday evening reading series of utterly fantastic poets & writers at Bowery Poetry Club. Hosted by Liz Peters and Ariel Yelen.

ASHLEY AUGUST is a 22 year old Brooklyn native and NYC's 2013 Youth Poet Laureate. A young "tour de force," August is an author, poet, playwright, child of the sun, actress, youth teaching artist and the host of Bowery Poetry's weekly Slam. She got her start at 14 in the off-Broadway production "Love: A Circus in Three Acts" and has since been featured on great stages such as the Apollo, The Great Hall at Cooper Union and The Triad Broadway House. She began her poetic journey in the summer of 2009 at Urban Word NYC where she quickly established herself as a rising star: becoming a Youth Leadership Board member and participating in several highly acclaimed competitions including the Urban Word Grand Slam Finals and the New York Knicks Poetry Slam. In 2012, August landed a spot on the Urban Word Youth Slam team winning a ticket to California to perform at the Brave New Voices national poetry competition. In December of the same year, she was cast in the spirit-shifting off-broadway show titled “Black Ink”, where she wrote and starred in her own one woman production.

LONDON GRANT is a storyteller from Brooklyn. Inspired by relationships, social justice, and women, her dedication has led her to receive The Ernst Pawel Award for poetry. Whether she is at the Apollo Theater or United Nations, London is well known for her soul grabbing one woman show, Here I Sit with Urban Word's Journal to Journey. She has performed as a featured artist at the Poetic License Festival and the Women's Center Stage Festival. She studies sociology.
