Born in New York City in 1974, poet, literary and art critic, and translator ROWAN RICARDO PHILLIPS (www.rowanricardophillips.com) earned his BA at Swarthmore College and his PhD at Brown University. His poems have appeared in The New Republic, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and Poetry among other publications. He is the author of the poetry books Heaven (June 2015), longlisted for the 2015 National Book Award in Poetry, and The Ground (2013), both published by FSG. For The Ground he was the recipient of a Whiting Writers’ Award, the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award and the GLCA New Writers Award for Poetry; he was also a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Poetry and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Poetry. In 2015 he was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for poetry.
