On Sunday, January 17, 2016, The Bowery Poetry Club introduces two exciting, funky new books, Marzipan Physics and Extended Syllables.
Marzipan Physics is the comic book debut of artist and designer Jennifer Ross. Marzipan is a particle physicist who lives in 2015 and is not only a musician, but also an extraterrestrial. Her home planet is engaging in a nefarious plot to sabotage a technology hub, and she needs to take action.
Extended Syllables is the poetry debut of Abdul Fattah Ismail. An advertising and marketing veteran, he has been writing creatively for twenty years. His book is a wide set of deconstructed popular text, from music history to chemistry and food politics. The results are dazzling yet oddly familiar.
Fattah Ismail will read a selection of poems, and Ross will give a talk about her comic, in which she highlights some of her creative influences, which range from Josie & The Pussycats to James Bond (and yes, David Bowie). She will also share some insight into her creative process.
The performances will be followed by a Q&A session with both parties. Copies of Extended Syllables and Marzipan Physics will be available for sale.
