CAMUS : A STRANGER IN THE CITY, A SERIES OF EVENTS COMMEMORATING THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF ALBERT CAMUS' ONE AND ONLY TRIP TO THE USA

RONALD GUTTMAN READS THE FALL At the outset of his lengthy confession of his tormented life to a stranger, former Parisian lawyer Jean-Baptiste Clamence, exiled in Amsterdam, uses his interlocutor as a mirror for himself. But as Clamence revisits his moments of moral uncertainty and hypocrisy, the mirror flips, and we the readers are forced to question our own actions and inactions, as we strive to find meaning in our harried pursuits, unable to escape the judgment of others. On the occasion of the series “Camus: A Stranger in the City,” New York-based Belgian actor Ronald Guttman performs the role of Clamence, reprising his memorable Brussels performances in the late 1980s of the anguished character. This reading is a preview of a production Guttman is planning for next season.
