SUBMERGE is a political performance series that foregrounds the work of artists of color, queer artists, and other artists who have been marginalized because of their politics or identities. SUBMERGE is also a showcase for alumni of EMERGENYC, a program for arts and activism run by the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, and mixes those alumni with performers and activists from NYC's diverse artistic communities. Celebrating vital voices from different backgrounds, ages, genders and genres, SUBMERGE confronts issues of race, class, sexuality, migration and other topics that are often absent from the city’s other stages.

December's edition of Submerge is dedicated to the memory of Jose Munoz.
